After this he travelled with his uncle, the agronomist Ludwik Górski (1818-1908), to Rome where he was introduced to the influential Cardinal and diplomat, Włodzimierz Czacki (1834-1888). When the latter was appointed as Papal Nuncius in Paris, Mycielski was his secretary there between 1879 and 1882. In 1882 he returned to his family’s estate in Dombrowa/Dąbrowa near Welun/Wieluń. He then inherited his uncle’s estates in Galowo/Gałowo near Samter/Szamotuły, where he ran the farming activities. Subsequently it became a cultural centre thanks to the presence of the painter, Julian Fałat (1853-1929) and the construction of an important library. In October 1884 he was elected as a member of the Polish parliamentary group in the German Reichstag for the constituency of Kosten-Buk/Kościan-Buk with a majority of 76.94%; and in February 1887 with a majority of 72,69%. He served on the special committees for scrutinising voting processes, and the monopoly on spirits. Around 1900 he became the owner of the estates and the manor house in Gembice. He was a member of the Towarzystwo Pomocy Naukowej/Society for the Support of Sciences, and of economic and farming societies. During the First World War he was active in a huge number of charitable societies, including those for war victims. At the end of the war he participated in actions for the referendum in Upper Silesia.
