Cegielski, Stefan (Stephan Caesar Zephirin Cegielski), 1884-1903 member of the Reichstag of the German Empire; 1889-1904 member of the 2nd Chamber of the Prussian Landtag. *26.8.1852 Poznan, †29.1.1921 Poznan, industrialist, board director, 1903 confidential papal financier. Son of the machine tool owner, Dr. Hipolit Cegielski. After his A-levels in 1870 in Poznan he studied at the Königliche Gewerbeakademie in Berlin until 1873. Travels in Germany, Austria, France, Poland and Italy. In 1876 he was appointed as the director of his father’s factory H. Cegielski - Poznań factory for the Production of Agricultural Machines and Equipment, Steam Engines, Distilleries and Boiler Systems (founded in 1846). The factory employed 400 people. He turned it into a joint stock company in 1899. Between 1879 and 1897 he was a reserve lieutenant in Ulanen Regiment No. 10 in Poznan. Starting in the mid-1880s he was the chairman of the board of a bank and member of the board of trade in Poznan. In October 1884 he was elected as a member of Polish parliamentary group in the German Reichstag for the constituency of the city of Poznan with majorities between 55.89% and 75.52%. He was a member of a huge number of standing committees, including those for trading regulations, goods descriptions, emigration, chambers of trade, accident insurance, and the trade courts. He was the recorder in the 9th Legislature Period of the Reichstag (1893/98), and a member of the executive of the Reichstag.
