Dylczyński, Cyprian, Polish painter, member of the “Munich School”. From 1860: student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. *26.9.1835 Warsaw, †12.6.1913 ibid. 1852-58: studies at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts/Akademia Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie under Rafał Hadziewicz (1803-1883), Jan Ksawery Kaniewski (1805-1867) and others. On the 7.5.1860 he enrols in the technical painting class at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, studies under Wilhelm von Kaulbach (1805-1874), Hermann Anschütz (1802-1880) and Moritz von Schwind (1804-1871). Subsequently he moves to Paris to work for six years in the workshop of Léon Cogniet (1794-1880). From 1867: resident in Warsaw. 1872-84: member of the Warsaw Society of the Friends of the Fine Arts/Towarzystwo Zachęty Sztuk Pięknych. Dylczyński paints oil and watercolour scenes from Polish history, genre scenes and religious motifs, topographical and architectural motifs (Memorial to John III Sobieski in the Ulica Agrykola, 1888; Ruins of the Parthenon, 1869; Jupiter Temple in Athens, 1896), as well as portraits. He occasionally devotes himself to literary themes (Macbeth and the Witches; Faust and Gretchen). His painting is precise and detailed, carefully and smoothly executed and orientated on the late 18th century and classicism. He makes illustrations for the periodical, Tygodnik Ilustrowany and in 1879 he helps to create the “Album Jubileuszowy artystów polskich” for the writer Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. Amongst others, his works can be found in the national museums in Cracow, Posen/Poznań, Stettin/Szczecin and Warsaw; in Warsaw in the Muzeum Łazienki Królewskie and in the National Gallery in Lviv.
