Burial ground where the two polish prisoners of war lie

The graves that remained in the plot were those of Russians and of Polish nationals who died after the end of the war. The list of names of Poles buried there includes 16 names - 10 children and 6 adults, including 2 former prisoners of war. They were most likely in treatment after captivity or were residents of Displaced Persons camps:

RYSZARD ROGALSKI Cpl.

* 29.7.1926

† 22.7.1945

TEOFIL PLISZKA Lance Corporal Rifles

* 27.4.1905

† 12.8.1945

There is some archival information about 8,000-10,000 Polish citizens who stayed on the island of Sylt in February 1946. A small number of them were probably people who stayed there after liberation; the remaining thousands were Poles placed by the British occupation authorities in DP camps or referred for treatment to local hospitals and sanatoriums.
