In the town and its surroundings there were over a dozen labour camps of different sizes. Polish forced labourers - about 500 women and men - were placed in the so called Polenlager at 26–30 Burgstraße and they worked in Celle. In Fallingbostel there were also labour divisions (Arbeitskommando) No. 6217 and 6055/3 of the stalag. Forced labourers often died of exhaustion caused by long daily hours of work in harsh conditions with insufficient nutrition and lack of medical care or they died in accidents at work.

The names of 30 Poles include 4 names of women between 20 and 45 years of age. Further victims were buried from the beginning of 1943 at the "Waldfriedhof" cemetery in the woods.
