Grabsteine identifizierter, aus Polen stammender jüdischer KZ-Häftlinge aus dem Außenlager Hannover-Ahlem

Majority of the victims were prisoners of the Neuengamme concentration camp branch in Hannover-Ahlem. They were first transported from the liquidated Jewish ghetto from Łódź to the concentration camp in Auschwitz and in 1944 they were sent to forced labour at "Continenal" and "Metallwerke Hannover" facilities in Stöcken and then to Ahlem. About 750 prisoners died or were murdered in the Ahlem camp. Some of the prisoners who were physically fit were sent on the 6th of April 1945 by SS officers to the so called death march to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Most of them did not survive the march. Almost 200 of ill prisoners remained in the camp which was ultimately liberated by American soldiers. Unfortunately, majority of them died in consecutive weeks or months in Heidehaus hospital due to poor health condition.

Most of the deceased buried in the war plot at the Bothfeld Jewish cemetery were 319 Polish Jews who died even before the above described events. Their urns with their names on them were found in 1948 in the area of the Ahlem camp and then they were transferred to the cemetery in Bothfeld.
