Tombstone of the polish soldiers
Tombstone of the polish soldiers

The soldiers probably died in April 1945, when the commander of the 1st Ukrainian Front Marshal Ivan Konev joined the 2nd Army with the Lusatian Operation being prepared. On the 19th of April, the defence on the Lusatian Neisse was broken. From 23rd to 27th April, the 28th and 36th regiments were attacking in the direction of Horka, Diehsa and Niesky, where the main clash with the enemy took place, which ended in heavy losses. The fallen soldiers who were buried there were commemorated with a tombstone with an inscription in Polish and German:

Honour and glory to the soldiers of the Polish Second People's Army who gave their lives in the fight for liberation from Hitler's fascism. Here lie the ashes of 15 soldiers of the Polish Second People's Army

[translated from Polish]

At the cemetery, there is also a separate plot for the Red Army soldiers.
