Marański, Antoni (Anton Maranski), 1866/67 member of the 2nd chamber of the Prussian Landtag, in March 1871 member of the Reichstag of the German Empire. *16.6.1832 Culm/Chełmno, †16.3.1897 Rinsk, district of Thorn, priest. 1863 parish priest in Sullenschin/Sulęczyno, district of Karthaus/Kartuzy, later parish priest in Rinsk. After the Polish January Uprising 1863 the Berlin Supreme Court described him as a suspect. In March 1871 he was elected as a member of the Polish parliamentary group in the German Reichstag for the constituency of Marienwerder 4 (Thorn) with a majority of 50.08%. However the election was annulled in the Reichstag sitting of 20th March 1871 for formal non-compliance, suspicion of electoral fraud and because of an Act of God (the Vistula had flooded and this has prevented people from voting). The by-election in May 1871 was won by the National Liberal candidate, Friedrich Meyer. Archives: Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz, I. HA Rep. 97, Nr. 4823.
